Beautiful sites, friendly staff -- love it.
Very unfriendly staff and host. My husband and I were hiking through Solitude and set up a hammock off the side of the trail. Apparently we set up on a campsite that needed to be paid for *totally our mistake and misunderstanding* and an old man in a golf cart approached us and let us know we needed to leave. So we started packing up our stuff and let him know we'd leave and that we were sorry. I looked over after a minute of packing up, and he was still staring heavily and didn't look away once..he says "I'm going to keep staring as long as I want until you leave" very creepy and uncomfortable..I let him know once again we were leaving and there was no need to be rude. As we were walking away he started FOLLOWING US IN THE GOLF CART and this guy has not taken his eyes off us! So my husband asked if he liked the view from following behind us;) and he starts swearing at us and saying he was going to call the cops. (Call the cops got what?? We were cooperative and left) I asked for his name and he says "Fred Flintstone" ... and refuses to give his real name. (Not even on the campsite anymore) he was STILL staring at us. Maybe the old man is just crazy and senile and bitter, but we left and he continued to harass and yell at us. Wouldn't pay a dollar to stay there if that's who's in charge!
Super amazing camp spots in thick Forrest. Clean restrooms, very friendly camp hosts and wildlife everywhere. We had a momma moose and her two babies come hang out by our camp spot. It was super cool to watch and we got great pictures. The only thing that should happen is they need to lower the price of a spot per night. It was way to high to ask for. We paid 50.00 for a night because we were in a 'double' that simply was not a double. It only had room to park one vehicle but had 2 tables.
Pros: More privacy and bigger lot than Spruce. Running water and flush toilet. Nice hosts. Adjacent to trails and Solitude.
Great camping site.
Cons: A couple of sites too close to the road for noise. Closed soon after labor day. Facilitites need work. Hard to find a spot on holidays and weekends.
