Specifically, this review is about their salad bar. I like salads, and my wife suggested it.
I have loved this Harmons since I was little. I am happy to drive a little further to shop here. It is always clean, well-stocked and the staff are friendly and helpful. The produce is high quality and I'm always happy walking out the door.
Also, it made me think why didn't she ask before she bagged it and priced it? That would be the best way to avoid it. (Most deli employees do this)
Her attitude was not polite and she acted very put out that I asked her to correct this. The experience made me question why I come to Harmon's. Their food is definitely more pricey that other grocery stores. If a staff member is having a bad day, please don't take it out on your customer.
The dressing bottles were a mess, with their contents coating the outside of the plastic bottles. The floor around the salad bar was covered with various vegetable bits and other assorted chunks of food that had fallen down and not been cleaned.
By the time I had finished making my salad, my hands felt like I had dipped them into a bottle of oily sludge. It's as if the employees hadn't bothered to clean or restock anything.
When your reason for existing is to sell things, maybe teach your cashiers how to run their register. I just wasted 15 minutes of my life because the cashier couldn’t figure out Apple Pay, or how to void a transaction. Meanwhile there wasn’t a manager to be found, excellent customer service!
The store is huge — too huge. Miss something at one end, and it's a half-block trek back to the other end to find it, but that's not why I'm giving the store only two stars.
There's not much to not love. Customer service is great. Selection is fantastic. There's not much you can't get here that you could get at Caputo's or whole foods. Produce is pricey, but the best. Tons of local stuff if you're into that. Great meat, great cheese, helpful foodies... And the artisan bread is unbeatable. You'd have to fly to Paris to get better baguettes.
Like the store itself, the salad bar was big. It was also messy, badly stocked and the utensils were covered with the greasy debris of hundreds of people handling them with food on their hands.
But the worst part came at the checkout counter. The total for our two less-than-appetizing salads came to twenty-four dollars! With those kinds of prices, the store could easily hire a full-time person to look after the salad bar to make sure it's well-stocked and, most important, clean.
I love shopping at this Harmon's. Although, today I had a very disappointing interaction with a girl at the deli. I asked her to cut me a piece of cheese about the size of half a brick and she came back with a full brick size cheese. Naturally, I said "That is actually too much, please cut this in half"
