Saw a car on KSL I was super interested in that they had for sale. Text George to ask a few questions. He gave one word answers and didn't want to give up information very easily. I asked if the body work had a warranty from the guys that did it (didn't figure it did. This isn't the first salvage title car I would have owned) he said no so I asked who did the work. He comes back with the smart ass answer of a "Body Shop".
I bought a car from Best Deal Auto Sales in March 2015, a Toyota Camry Solara with about 55,000 on it. The has driven like a dream for 2 years (Thank God :-) and Toyota. I recently moved to NY and needed info about the rebuild that was done to the bumper and I called Kurosh and the documents I needed were faxed to me the same day. Thanks! Obviously buying a car can be tricky, do your homework, but I want to say that I got a good deal and was taken care of by Best Deal Auto Sales.
He split the repair bill for the job 50/50 with me, and was great deal of help getting a discount with a local exhaust shop. I haven't had a further issue with the car, and I understand others may have had different experiences, but I wanted to highlight what he did for me, and suggest that if he has a good vehicle in stock that you are looking for, this isn't a bad place to buy.
When you buy a rebuilt/branded title car, its always going to be hit or miss. You really are at the mercy of the dealer. Its a risk you choose to take, but if you get lucky, you get a newer low mileage vehicle that you might not have been able to afford otherwise.
That's all I needed. I saw how they treat their customers and that was enough. I would never buy a car from someone like that. He obviously didn't want to sell it that bad or was hiding something and didn't want me to call them.
After buying the car, the next day, the check engine light came on for the catalytic converter, which is rather normal for the vehicle I have with it's mileage. I wasn't pleased, being a somewhat poor college student, that I had to make an immediate repair, and called up the dealership to see if they would do anything with this. With used car sales, there is no real form of implied warranty, but I was pressed for cash, and I figured I would see if the dealer would stand by his sale.
Got a great deal on my accord. These other reviewers may have had a bad experience, but I have had my car for over a month now and there are no problems with it. Kurosh is very nice and was willing to work with me. Highly recommend
So, I think the prior reviews made have been coming from the expectation of buying a newer car, or perhaps not doing the proper research. For one, if you buy a "Salvage/Rebuilt" titled car, you're just asking for it, so I can't say much for those, but thought I would share my experience.
I enjoyed doing business with a local guy who has been getting his hands dirty for many years, doing what he enjoys and just trying to make an honest living. I would recommend him to my friends, of course being objectively cautious about any branded title vehicle, making sure to give it a thorough inspection regardless.
The owner has a strong accent, but we managed to communicate ok. In my chats with him, he seemed to take pride in having a dealer license, and I trusted he would not choose to do anything shady during the transaction. I was rewarded with a nice newer car, more car than I could have had on my budget, and ~$2000 less than other branded title dealers who have fancier lots. He had my license plates in less than a week, and the title arrived a few weeks later. So far the car runs great.
I got lucky with this dealer. I saw a newer model Subaru Forester on KSL, and came in and made a deal. I was not turned off at all by the rough looking lot. I chalk that up to the owner not spending a lot on fancy overhead. Instead, he earnestly fixes the cars, and sells them for a reasonable price.
I found my car through a KSL ad, and went to look at it more after checking out the records on the vehicle through Autocheck and researching the reliability of this particular make and model. The building and first impression of the business was somewhat shady, but the car appeared to be decent, and upon inspection, was.
