The classic vegan restaurant in SLC. It's been around a long time. Can be hit or miss but their breakfast are always on point. Definite five stars though for the vegan crowd.
I really want to love Sage's and Vertical Diner. I have been to both places several times. The food is mostly good although sometime inconsistent. The service however can be mediocre at best. During my most recent visit to Sage's Cafe the waitress although pleasant did not seem to have the slightest idea of how to wait on a table. While trying to have a relaxing evening out with friends, before I was even done with my entree she asked me if I wanted a box to take the rest home. When I replied that I was still eating she asked if I wanted dessert. Meanwhile the empty plate from our appetizer was still on the table and she failed to clear that. The restaurant was not crowded, so I am not sure the need to be rushed though my meal. I could go on, but I wont. I have had similar experiences at both Sage and Vertical, the waitstaff does not seem to have basic table waiting skills, and/or they do not seem to care. If I am paying good money to dine out I do not think it is too much to ask for waitstaff to have a little training.
Both the women who waited on me were very nice and helpful in making recommendations. The vertical tacos were great and the brownie sundae was awesome as well. I didn't try them but If you're in the mood for pancakes, I heard from workers and customers alike that they are very good
Jackfruit tacos were amazing!! Super flavorful. Good, friendly server. Gluten free items designated on menu and also those that can be made gluten free. Cute, cozy atmosphere in the new space. Look forward to going back.
My mum and I were on vacation here in Salt Lake City and found Sage's Cafe via the Happy Cow app. My mum had the tender tigers and I had the seared portabella mushroom meal. They were both incredible! The atmosphere is great, the wait staff super friendly and helpful, and the food delicious!! I'd recommend this place a thousand times over. My only wish is that they sold a cook book so I could make the sauce on the portabella meal at home!
