This is an awesome restaurant with lots of perks. The food is delicious, with options to cater to different preferences and limitations. There is traditional Mexican food and more adventurous food. There are 7 different Moles, and our server brought us a plate with each to taste prior to our order. The enchiladas we're delicious, as well as the chicken dish with shrimp which had great sauce. The guacamole tostadas had impressive guacamole and we'll crisped tortillas. The Mole itself was quite good - most of our table preferred the Amarillo and Verde moles, which were less nutty than the others.
The restaurant was highly recommended for authentic Mexican food. However, I have had much better with smaller, family run restaurants. I could not help but feel the menu was not adventurous and the meals - while certainly a cut above many westernized Mexican restaurants - were pedestrian. The highlights of my meal was the margarita, and the hot sauces, which were all beautifully complex in their own ways.
In addition to the food, we had a super helpful server and a good pace for the meal.
This place is so good it's crazy. Have the guacamole, it's among the best I've ever had. Being from Los Angeles there's no shortage of great Mexican restaurant in my home town. Honestly I can't recall ever having tastier Mexican food anywhere. There may be a line outside so pick your time to visit appropriately.
Was the 40 min wait to get into the restaurant worth it? Yes. But only just.
The Red Iguana lives up to the hype from the hole in the wall atmosphere to the wait times to the quality of the food. Besides having a large menu, Red Iguana's dishes are unique enough to make this a better Mexican meal than most. I opted for the combo platter and was pleased with the variety of my selection. My meal mate got a pumpkin seed mole. Try finding something like that at Tony's Taco Heaven (I hope there isn't a place with that name). Anyway, good stuff but plan to wait for a while.
The one down side is there seems to always be a wait, but they make it okay with great heating outdoors and hot apple cider.
This has got to be the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been. Despite the size of the place or having to wait outside for a short time, this place was worth every minute. Fresh food, ingredients and amazing prep. The flavors were just to die for. I would go again and again. Not to mention it was reasonable with its pricing as well.
