Had a AAA reservation for Ford Explorer for *825. Missed pickup time and was cancelled. A sign at the desk said "Cars and SUV's Available". So I said to the desk let just book one of the available SUV's at AAA rate. I was told it would be $1874...pretty much take it or leave it. I get to my hotel and get on the Dollar site and book the same deal at $825. Call customer service and tell them I got ripped off. Customer service tells me that this particular location is an independent agent of Dollar.
I had a weekly reservation from Budget at the Salt Lake City Ariport. The best rate I could obtain was what I thought was still quite costly, about $600 or nearly $100/day. Yet when I tried to pick up my car, I was told that it would be nearly an hour wait. Ironically, a sign on the counter said "Cars Available," when they weren't. Another customer I spoke to had been waiting for 2 hours. I had an appointment and was forced to rent a car at the last minute at another car rental agency for even more. I was told by that agency that Budget is known to overbook their cars at Salt Lake City Airport. So, be forewarned. Don't make a reservation at Budget at SLC airport and expect it to be available, or for the service reps to be friendly.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.....RIPOFF SPECIAL..ONE STAR BECAUSE ZERO STARS ISN"T AN OPTION!!!!!!!
If you book through a third party, make sure that your total cost, including the taxes and fees, match up to the estimated quote. I would double-check this at the time you actually book the car and not when you ready to pick up at the counter. It may take more time, but will save you a big headache, extra money, and a lot of frustration! Those taxes and fees are very high and you may not be getting the deal you thought you were. Take personal responsibility to make sure ALL costs are accurate and everything is documented. The local customer service was not transparent enough for me.
I get home and file a complaint to Dollar and AAA. Dollar tells me five weeks later they can't find my info and acts like they cannot possibly find their own transaction. They claim my OLN(drivers license) i and my credit card don't exist in their system. Funny....they have $1874 of my money and claim they can't piece together why I want a refund. It's a total scam at Dollar. My credit card company will be receiving a call tomorrow morning and we'll see what can be done. Sure hope AAA get's in the action oir maybe AAA isn't what they used to be either.
I picked up the car with an insurance the first day (at 1AM) and returned to change the insurance to none the next day at 10AM. I was charged initially $140 and when I questioned the charge break-up it was corrected as $103 for half a day even though I was keeping the same car with me.
Not sure why so many negative reviews. I've been renting from them every other week (literally 20 something times a year) over the past couple of years and they've always been great to rent from, from the counter staff to the people on the lot. I've rarely had issues with the cars, and they've always handled those needs quickly and efficiently. I have no desire to rent elsewhere. Keep up the good work Dollar SLC airport.
Then when I returned the car, again it charged me for 1100 miles extra when I had only driven 700 miles extra. Again I had to point that out and the customer service person made the changes in the system and said that it'll get reflected by that night. I had also been given a corrected receipt. To my disbelief the final charge on my credit card was with the 1100 miles extra. Now when I called them up they say they have no record of 700 miles overage. How did the receipt come out from the computer then? So basically now I have to fight it out with them sending the photocopy of the receipt and wasting my time in several convesations and emails. Beware of Dollar at SLC. They are just trying to mint money as cunningly as possible.
