Today’s forced Chevy rental at National’s SLC location was an Impala. After being assigned this vehicle, I drive away to not too long later feel that the boot on the passenger side felt busted. On top of that, there are a couple of rock chips in the window.
I am an Emerald Club member and I love being able to 'pick' my own car when I arrive. It is one of the main reasons I always rent from National. But today I want to shine a light on someone at National who really went above and beyond for me and my sister, who is physically handicapped. We picked up our car on Sept 11, 2017, at Salt Lake City Airport. We drove to Ogden, Utah. Later that evening we went out and we had problems with the check engine light. We were so afraid to drive anywhere. We ate nth in our late 60's and by ourselves. We were leaving for Yellowstone N.P. the next morning and I didn't know how we would be able to get another car and I was afraid to drive ours anywhere! When I called the National emergency number, I met John Reilly (spellng?). It was after the time that a car could be dispatched from Salt Lake City Airport. But given my circumstances, he performed miracles for me. Shortly after midnight, a tow truck showed up with another car for me and my sister. We were able to enjoy our vacation that we had looked forward to for so long. Thank you to JOHN. He is another reason I always rent from National Car Rental.
I read the reviews on this place and was truly terrified of how bad it was going to be, but we traveled to Yellowstone the week of the eclipse (mid-August 2017) so every car rental place was 100% booked so I had to keep my National reservation. We actually had a very positive car rental experience. We arrived at the National counter around 11 PM on Friday night. There were two people standing behind the counter and absolutely no one waiting in line. We had our car keys in less than 10 minutes. We had reserved a midsize car, but we received a complimentary upgrade to a Chevy Impala LT. It was clean, had no dents or scratches, and no mechanical issues (we had it 9 days and drove to Yellowstone and back with it with zero problems). They charged us the same rate we were quoted and didn't try to sell us extra stuff. Returning the car was fast and easy too. They had us checked out before we were even finished unloading our luggage which is impressive since there were so many people returning cars at the same time we did that there was a line to get into the rental car garage (every single rental car place was insanely busy). I wouldn't hesitate to rent from this location again.
Worst national car rental location. No inventory. I work at military installations so I need a rugged vehicle. Emerald Aisle is NOT available here and I was not warned of this when I booked. They tried to give me a Malibu but that would have ended up destroyed so I asked for an SUV or Pickup. There were no SUVs available and the biggest is a Traverse, which is tiny. This location has NO pickups in inventory. Had to cancel the reservation and go to Dollar to get an actual SUV. Will not make this mistake again and will just have to take my business to a more reputable rental place.
They do not have an Emerald Aisle, which would be survivable if they at least rent anything outside of the ‘owner’s’ Chevy dealership (like in Reno). The ONLY vehicle you can get with them is a Chevy, and not even a Tahoe or Camaro.
Seems like par for the course when renting with NRC in SLC.
I have rented more than 100 days with National so far this year. Have to say that I really like National and the Emerald Aisle, but despise going to SLC’s location.
I travel all over and use national but never have been treated so bad. Emerald line was 30 deep, 2 people on staff for 30 min before they added 2 More. Be prepared to wait and get no service! There is no Emerald service.
