After a positive experience in Seattle airport I decided to book an SUV at this facility in SLC. The minimal savings are definitely not worth the poor service here. When I arrived I was informed my SUV was not ready. Fast forward almost TWO hours, and I received a dirty and damaged SUV. The interior looked like it hasn't been cleaned for weeks, and the outside had a good amount of body damage. I ended up taking the vehicle only cause I didn't have time to go to another rental place since most of my morning was gone. I do give credit to the customer service guy, because I really tried to get me something fast. This place needs new management to get the logistics working again.
The good....the lady at the counter was nice.
Staff was quick and the price was right. They will try and sell you a lot of unnecessary insurance and fuel coverage. If you're savey, you know you don't need it. The vehicle was not the cleanest, which is fine, but my biggest concern was how dirty the inside of the windows were. I literally went to the nearest service station to clean them and check the tire pressure. Vehicles are maintained adequately, but not well. I only needed something to get around town for a few days. Maybe put 110 miles on it over three days. If I was taking a longer trip, i might not use them. Three stars because they were adequate.
By far the worst car rental experience I've had. The shuttle to the rental place seemed to be falling apart on the way there. Once we got to Fox location, there were at least 15 customers in line and just one representative seemed to be working, while the other 3 jokers were milling about, having a soda and a chat. Finally it was my turn and it turned out that the SUV I reserved was not on location. The customer representative offered me a choice to upgrade to another car for an additional fee. When I protested that I should not have to pay for their mistakes, he said "that's our policy". I am confused about what is the point of reserving a car in advance if once you get there, the car is not available! We finally settled on a van and here, the same rep hands me a piece of paper and tells me to go inspect the car for damages. 1 - what the heck are the 3 aforementioned jokers doing so important that they can't help customers inspect cars? 2 - it is 10 pm and the lot is barely lit. It's a little hard to inspect cars in the dark. 3 - do I look like an insurance adjuster? I don't know what to look for!
Absolute WORST company!!! They don’t even deserve 1 star. I booked a car ahead of time, arrived to find 10 people ahead of me in line and it still took 1 hour for me to get to the front of the line get a rental car. The employees were rude when I told them my dad was in the ICU and I needed them to hurry so I could get to the hospital before he passed away. After waiting 45 min the manager was especially awful to me and said if I couldn’t be patient I should call Uber. My dad did pass away and I needed to extend the rental for a few days until the funeral. There is no direct number to the SLC Fox rental so I called the corporate number and they made me pay triple what the local place quoted me if I needed to extend the rental. Everything is signed electronically so customers are not given a hard copy of the rental agreement. You might think you’re getting a great price for a rental car, but they force you to put down a large deposit ($180 I think), and they don’t give it back, at least they haven’t given mine back. I am astounded that they get away with such dishonesty, manipulation, and garbage customer service. I am going start by filing a complaint with the BBB, something I have never done before.
The above is a short summary of the total twilight zone that is Fox Rental Car. We spent 2 hours at that place... I will never rent a car from them again. And you shouldn't either. It's just not worth the precious vacation time...
0 customer parking. They even said sorry, we don't have parking, you will have to find a parking lot somewhere. When I went to pay, I was paying for a friend and they will not accept a debit card even with a heavy deposit if the card holder is not the one flying out later. They are NOT at the airport. About 10 minutes away. Huge chance of getting stranded and going back to the airport to get a car with some other company without so many restrictions.
